The Best Non-fiction Reads So Far

Let’s begin our list with the best non-fiction books that have garnered much attention ever since their release.

The Burning Earth by Sunil Amrith

The first on my list is a read that became the year’s most anticipated book of Literary Hub. Penned down by a historian, this is a magisterial book that takes the readers on a journey through the 500-year-long history of reshaping the planet by humanity and how the planet has shaped human history. It is an excellent read for all those who are concerned about the environmental crisis of this world.

"Impressive… an elegant and sweeping look at how humanity has brought itself to the brink."

― Publishers Weekly (starred review)

The Right to Oblivion by Lowry Pressly

Given the current circumstances of the digital world, where almost every part of our life is surveilled, this book by Pressly is a perfectly timed release. The book revolves around the concept of privacy and its value in a world that is hypermediated. It emphasizes striving for privacy by bringing into the light different reasons that we might not be aware of.

"It is a radiantly original contribution to a conversation gravely in need of new thinking."

–Ben Tarnoff, The New Yorker

The Best Fiction Reads

Are you a fiction buff? Here are our fiction book recommendations for 2024 that you will not regret getting your hands on.

Sunday by Olivier Schrauwen

It’s close to impossible to not mention this book by the internationally acclaimed graphic novelist, Schrauwen. The book progresses over the course of a single day and the author’s renowned humor makes this an amazing read. From waking up on a Sunday to a point where the fictional character begins to sink into their own thoughts, it promises a fully engaging read that will make the readers laugh and enjoy their time flipping to every page.

"A bored everyman does battle with the colossal enemy that is a dull Sunday in this epic mock-Proustian graphic novel from Belgian artist Schrauwen. ... [A] surprisingly touching and life-affirming portrait of indolence."

― Publishers Weekly Starred Review

Enlightenment by Sarah Perry

The second fiction read that has made it to our list of top book recommendations for 2024 is this amazingly layered epic. Ghosts and hidden histories wrapped in Perry’s exceptional writing have caught the attention of many. And thanks to the ‘genre-bending’ novel of ideas and things of sorts, this book got longlisted for the Booker Prize. Friendship, romance, and love, this one is a perfect read for all those readers who love some drama!

"Read it, then read it again. This is a book full of unexpected wonders."

-- Literary Review
